Taco Heads: A Popular Food Truck Finds a Home

Having grown from a single truck to a Mexican food empire, Taco Heads needed a place to call its own, and it found it in its first brick-and-mortar location about two miles from Villas of Oak Hill Apartments. Taco Heads offers a simple but delicious menu of breakfast tacos, signature and traditional tacos, and snacks. It’s best known for the breakfast tacos, served until 11 a.m. Other favorite tacos include the pastor tacos with grilled pineapple, and the carnitas tacos with green cabbage. The chips are homemade and pair well with mouth-watering guacamole.

A nice aspect of this place is the table service. It’s a sit-down restaurant with waiters, while still having a relaxed vibe. There’s hand-crafted cocktails and a wide selection of beer available, and more drinks will be added soon in the upcoming “beverage building.” A great start for a restaurant that is sure to continue to rise, Taco Heads is a must-try.

Chefs Craft the Perfect Pizza Crust at Vivo 53, Not Far From Villas of Oak Hill Apartments

Zagat has crowned Vivo 53 one of The 7 Hottest New Pizza Places in Dallas-Fort Worth and awarded its burrata a spot on the list of 14 of the Most Photogenic Dishes in Dallas-Fort Worth, so even if you haven't had a chance to eat here yet, a stop is long overdue. After all, it's not far from Villas of Oak Hill Apartments! The rave reviews from customers are pouring in, too, if food critics' opinions aren't enough to convince you that this Italian eatery offers something special.

Its chefs are meticulous about crafting the perfect pizza crust (the restaurant is actually named for the number of tries it took to come up with the perfect dough, according to Zagat). So when you bite into a piece of the popular spicy sausage pizza, take some time to really savor the crust. This is just one of many gourmet pies, including the fried kale, Kobe meatball, and crispy prosciutto. You can also skip the pizza and go for a plate of fresh pasta instead, such as lasagna, spaghetti, or rigatoni.

Fort Worth Zoo, Not Far From Villas of Oak Hill Apartments: Lions, Tigers and Bears are Just the Beginning

The Fort Worth Zoo has been around since 1909, making it the oldest zoo in all of Texas. Back when it first opened, however, the zoo looked a lot different. For one thing, its collection of resident animals was pretty paltry consisting of one lion, an alligator, two bear cubs, a coyote, a peacock, and a few rabbits. Today, the residents at Fort Worth Zoo number in the thousands, almost 7,000 to be more accurate.

And the zoo just continues to grow, debuting 16 new permanent exhibits in the past 20 years. There's the Chee-tos Cheetahs, where you can watch powerful felines run and prowl, as well as Parrot Paradise, a space where slightly smaller, colorful creatures flit from tree to tree. Don't miss a glimpse of the majestic lions, the waddling penguins, or the regal white tiger when you take a trip to the Fort Worth Zoo. If you grow tired of traipsing around, hop on the zoo's train back to the entrance on your way out. Make the short drive from Villas of Oak Hill Apartments to check it out.
