June 28, 2016 4:01 pm

The Lone Star Film Society is a nonprofit organization created a decade ago to keep locals in tune with the ever-changing landscape of independent film. From year-round screenings to assistance for local movie production companies, the Lone Star Film Society keeps Fort Worth in the loop, but its greatest addition to local culture is the Lone Star Film Festival.

Held each fall, the festival brings indie flicks and their production teams and casts to Fort Worth. Screenings take place all around the city, accompanied by discussions and panels with the people behind the films. You can stop in for any of the films and purchase a $10 ticket at the door, or buy an all-access badge to get backstage and enjoy some face time with the folks responsible for supporting the film community in Fort Worth.

The Kimbell Art Museum Is a Must-See Museum in Fort Worth

June 23, 2016 12:00 pm

Residents of the Villas of Oak Hill Apartments are lucky enough to live less than four miles from one of the area’s best art museums: the Kimbell Art Museum. The museum is home to a small but inclusive art collection with everything from ancient art to modern masterpieces. The collection is made up of about 350 pieces, including artwork by notable artists like Matisse, Monet, Rembrandt, Picasso, and more.

Kimbell is also known for its special exhibitions that it hosts throughout the year. Currently, the museum is home to an exhibition that focuses on the Le Nain brothers, Parisian artists from the 17th century. Traveling exhibitions pop up at the museum all throughout the year, so be sure to check the museum's website for the latest. Not only is the museum’s collection a must-see, but the building itself is a work of art. The modern design was created by Louis Kahn, a renowned architect.

Don’t Miss the Breakfast Tacos at Melis Taqueria

June 16, 2016 1:00 pm

Holes in the wall tend to be the best sources of authentic food, which is certainly the case at Melis Taqueria in Fort Worth. One patron notes that it’s not even really a full-fledged eatery, but rather a walk-up order window and collection of picnic tables on a covered porch. Locals don’t seem to mind, though. What Melis Taqueria lacks in ambience it more than makes up for in flavor.

You might not think of Mexican food for breakfast, but you really shouldn’t miss the breakfast tacos at Melis Taqueria. Order yours stuffed with chorizo, bacon, ham, or potatoes, plus fluffy eggs. Later in the day, swing by Melis for tortas, tacos, or gorditas. The authentic eats feature fresh, tender meats like carnitas, barbacoa, chicken, ham, or pork.
